Tamako Market : Episode 12 (Final)

It was 2:15 am when I finally had time to watch the last episode of Tamako Market. =.= Although my eyes look worse than L’s, I will try to do this review as best as I can ! Oh! And for those of you who haven’t watched the last episode of Tamako Market yet, beware! There are spoilers in this post so don’t say I didn’t warn you!~ >O</ (And my spell check and grammar are probably going to be horrible as I don’t have the energy to double check it.)

Yup end. After 12 episode of Kyoto Animation’s slice of life series, Tamako Market has come to an end. To my personal opinion, I thought the ending was a bit weak and just didn’t have me satisfied as I would have liked it to. Strangely though, I was guessing that this is what was going to happen. The episode instantly starts off with the Prince giving Tamako her lost medallion-coupon thingy. Tamako is then seen to be confused of what to do until Dera asked her straightforwardly what she thinks of marrying the prince. After a long explanation of a short story on her market’s citizens,Tamako finally confronts her true feelings.Once Tamako tells the prince and the market townsfolks that she doens’t want to marry Mr.Ouji here, the prince, and his Angelina Jolie lips bodygaurds make their way back home. I mean just like that! Talk about a fast rejection and acceptance scenario! Dang you Kyoto Animations! (count 1)

There was also a scene where Tamako runs throughout the Market and sees that her neighbors have disappeared. (They were at the Bath House with the Prince and Choi-chan) Tamako remembers that the only time an incident like this has happened was when her mother passes away. For that moment alone, I thought, was one of the best scenes in the episode. Seeing Tamako, a cute, bubbly and optimistic girl lose character at a past memory made my heart clench. I could almost feel Tamako’s pain. With the scene, it also made me have some hope that KyoAni. may open Tamako Market up for another season, although I highly doubt it, a girl can dream can’t she??But as you can guess, the anime then ends within 5 minutes. Noooooo!! I wanted to learn more about Tamako’s past! Dang you Kyoto Animations! T__T (count 2)

As for having a romantic ending….well, Mochizou finally brought of the courage to….give Tamako a birthday present! (you thought I was going to say confess didn’t cha??) Yup, that was all. It ended with just that. *sigh* Although I did somehow know that Kyoto Animations loves to leave their fan clubs dangling, I was really hoping for at least SOMETHING to be concluded between Tamako and Mochizou. Dang you Kyoto Animations! >___</ (count 3)

ImageImageImageImage

As for Choi-chan and the prince, it is seen that Choi-chan could actually be the bride candidate, as she was seen reaching for her necklace indicating that she was trying to hide the mark by wearing one in the first place. But as for this couple, nada. (count 4)

Image

Dera and Shiori? Not a chance. (count 5)

Overall, although the ending didn’t quite make me happy and it pained me to see that neither one of the couples having a had a conclusive ending (Bah! I was probably wishing for too much but still….), Tamako Market will always remain as a subtle, “chill” feeling anime that I can always hope to come back to watch because of it’s amazing animation and sugary characters that make you just want to plunge right in and hug to death. Image

And with that, I’m off to bed!! XD I can’t even write a good conclusion…I’ll just leave Mochizou ‘s zoned out face, as I believe this is what I look right now!!

And until my next anime review…….Nyaaaaaaa…..no energy….\( ̄□ ̄)\

2013 Upcoming Spring Anime News !!

Now that we have passed the year of earth’s destruction, we can now focus on more important things. Hot animes of 2013! Although 2012 was a great year for anime (we got Hyouka, Accel World, Sword Art Online, K, Zetsuen no Tempest, Sankarea, Madoka Magica, Kimi ni Todoke…the lost is endless) 2013 is coming in strong. Here are just some of the animes that will be appearing this early Spring!!

DISCLAIMER:*I also added a yes and a no fact after the short summary, be sure to check it out as well !! 🙂

Amnesia: January 7, 2013

Although this series has already aired, it was inevitable not to include it on my list. Amnesia started off as a visual novel by Ideal Factory and later adapted to an anime by Brain Base. The anime is basically like a Otomate game, the heroine is surrounded by incredibly hunky guys who are all in love with her. The creativity of the series is that all her choices are represented by “Card Symbols”, we’ve got the Hearts, Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and even the Joker.

AMNESIA.full.1365946

Yes:
All the male protagonists are extremely cute, and all of them have their own distinct personalities.
A LOT, and I mean alot, of “heated” scenes. You might feel a little….steamy >////<

No:
✖ This is not an anime for those who are into OTP (One true pairings) Yes, it’s a Harem fest for the ladies. Let her have her fantasies.

Date A Live: March 30, 2013

I’ve been confused as to read it as date-alive, or date a live (as in live my life), but let’s put that aside for now. Date A Live is about Shidou, who meets a girl named Touka who—well not to be cynical—but had preciously almost wiped out the entire human race 30 years ago! The only way for him to save mankind from this horrendous destruction is, as the name implies date her.Well, well, well. Harem and light novel just rings through my ears as I watch the PV. You know how when you watch an anime, you can tell whether it’s an original story (not adapted from a LN or a manga), a manga adaption, or game adaption? You’ll probably get that light novel feeling once you watch this.

33333333333333

Yes:
Girl Action !! Whooooo!

No:
✖ Meh. Just your basic fan service, harem king, with some fantasy elements.
✖ Not for viewers who don’t like light novel adaptions.

Karneval: April 3, 2013

Karneval is about a boy named Nai and Gereki and under unusual circumstances, are deemed wanted criminals. They soon encounter “Circus” The country’s top defense organization, one with some…bizarre members….
Karneval is a manga published by Square Enix, a company which I always thought were very distinct in style from their other competitions. (Kodansha, Shuiesha) I’m happy to say the anime looks great! Being an anime adaption of Manglobe (Samurai Champloo, Deadman Wonderland), which are known for their fluid animation and choosing  the best voice seiyuu for characters. All the characters are lovable and have their own kawaii trait to them, especially Nai.

11111

Yes:
The details are remarkable. Great character designs and scenery.
If you enjoy Pandora Hearts, Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji), or 07 Ghost Karneval gives off that same feel :3
Let the Yaoi fest being! Lot of Nai and Gereki shipping going on here. (What did you expect? It’s published by a josei magazine!)

No:
✖ The storyline is quite standard, not too much action, and the plot twist are quite limited.

Devil Survivor 2: April 4, 2013

Oh Yeah! It’s getting animated! For those of you who love the Persona  (last year’s persona 4 was stunning) and well as Shin Megumi Tensei series, I’m guessing your really excited about the new spin off. For those of you who haven’t played the games, Devil Survivor is about forming contracts with demons/monsters and having them basically be your fighting partners. In this new saga, we explore the world through Hibiki Kuze, eyes as he has to defeat the Septentriones in a period of only 7 days. Devil Survivor 2 is the only one in it’s series to be animated, so you know it’s going to be awesome!!

20121206_devil02_resize

Yes:
You can expect to see some awesome action scenes from both the players (protagonists) and their monsters. Kinda reminds me a bit of Digimon…hmmm

No:
✖ Devil Survivor is based on a game, and unless they release a sequel, you can expect this anime to last for only 1 season.

Hataraku no Maou Sama! : Apr 4, 2013

33333 Hataraku.Maou-sama!.604757

Demon King Sadao is close to concurring the world until he gets his butt kicked by Hero Emilia and sent to present day Tokyo. Alright! Tokyo domination time! But…how the did he end up working as a fast food employee??!
Hataraku no Mau Sama is based on a light novel of the same namewhich is currently on the 7th volume. It is produced by White Fox, the same studio that made Steins;Gate. I’m curious to how the anime producers will run this as Stein;Gates compared to Demon King Sadao are on completely different genres. Guess we’ll have to see to find out!

Yes:
Great for viewers who just want to sit back and relax to ridiculous and hearty comedy.

No:
The story is not too complex  so you’ll probably end up watching day-by-day scenarios.
Not for viewers who don’t like light novel adaptions.

Aku no Hana: April 6, 2013

To tell you the truth, the whole time I was reading the manga, I was going “What the heck am I reading??!” Aku no Hana is a….very weird and depressing manga. Although I was surprised when they announced the anime premier, I still couldn’t put my mind on how they were going to pull this off. To break it down, Aku no Hana is about a boy who falls in love with a girl, and during in infatuation process, he steals her gym clothes. Apparently, another girl caught him doing it so she has him abide by a contract in return to her not spilling out his secret. Pretty simple huh? You have no idea.

Yes:
The manga and anime are based on the works of Baudelaire himself, (The Flowers of Evil), and it tackles the question of “What is the tue meaning of living? Reproducing? Living a life with no distinctions from others? ”
Suspense, suspense, suspense. If your into “artistic” styles of anime, then you should check out Aku no Hana. You will be awed.

 No:
✖ If your not into mangas that are 1.) severely depressing, 2) the art and characters are very…2 dimensional so if your a fan of great artwork, your not gonna get it  3) Excuse my language, but the series is just freakin’ CRAZY! (This can be a plus and a negative, based on your opinions)

*I’m actually thinking of doing a review on Aku no Hana in the near future, so if your still unsure if you want to do a little experiment with a new series, then stay tunes !! O_O/

Shingeki no Kyojin: April 6, 2013

I admit, this anime takes the cake for my most anticipated manga of 2013. The manga had captured my heart since it’s first chapter and the PV to the anime looks amazing! Well, why wouldn’t it be? It’s created by the same animation company as Ghost in the Shell and the Tales saga, all series which have stunning and jaw dropping animation graphics. If you want to see so yourself, the PV is down below. 😀

88  awesome mikasha

Yes:
Badass story. Badass heroine. Badass artwork. Badass animation. What else? Oh, Badass action sequences!
The story is highly original and unlike most manga/animes, the series tend to shift focus to other characters, giving you an overall knowledge of each person’s perspective. It is done is such an efficient way that you don’t lose focus on who is the main character as well.
Great attempt on the post-apocalyptic universe. (if your into that sort of scenario)

No:
If you don’t like seeing people get ripped apart by 30 foot giants, I suggest you try not to experiment with this anime.

Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199: April 7, 2013

I seriously screamed when I found out it was going to be remade. Uchuu Senkan Yamato is a remake of the classic space opera anime from 1970. Writing this review man not seem much compared to all the commotion Japan is currently facing now (yes, it’s that big of a deal) but if you grew up watching Space Battle Ship—also known as Star Blazers—then you’ll understand what I mean. It’s Basically the Star Wars of Japan, except on a more prominent level!! So yes, this is also on my list of most anticipated animes of 2013. Although I would love to write more about this anime, I’ll save it for my next post…trust me, I can keep going on and on.

Yamato2199-1 111111111111111111111111111

Yes:
Space Battle Yamato , nuff said!! > </
BRILLIANT (in caps lock and bold) graphics, great ballads, backgrounds are very detailed, story plot is…just….breathtaking.
The anime and the whole Space Battle franchise is a symbol to Japanese culture and values. Therefore, I must say it represents Japan’s pride, bravery and honor.

No:
Produced by AIC and Xebec, who are well known for their bad production values and not so high rating show. But all in all, (and I’m bias), their production seems to have improved quite a lot from making this anime.

Arata Kangatari: April 8, 2013

It has been quite a long time since Yuu Watase works were adapted into an anime. (I believe her last anime was Aya no Ceres in 2000)Anyway, here’s the short blurb: Every 30 years, a female from the Hime family is chosen to serve the Hayagami. Unfortunately, the only person who is available for the role is Arata, who happens to be a male. There, he has to disguise himself to attend the ceremony but instead witnesses the assassination of the of current princess by the hands of her own personal guards, the Shinshou. As Arata runs for his life, falsely accused of murdering the princess himself, he switches places with an Arata  from another world, who is trying to deal with his own life problems. Will these tow be able to help each others scenarios?
I have always admired Yuu Watase’s work and respect her effort to begining her journey across a shounen genre.  Arata Kangatari has been an amazing manga read for me and I believe the anime will be quite promising.

1111111111111111111111111111111 22222222222222222222222

Yes:
Great Story if your into feudal type themes.
Amazing power plays, action scenes, a light comical presence and some romance here and there.

 No:
✖ We have a regular shounen hero here, and he gonna make friends with his enemies. If your into that, “die die bad guys!!” then that’s not gonna happen.

Saya no Uta: April 2013

Not only is 2013 a year for great new animes, but for the WEIRDEST year to adopt certain content INTO an anime. If you haven’t read the visual novel, you are missing out on some of the most gruesome, horrid and disturbingly good series ever published. Being a fan of Lovecraft himself, I was quite surprised how adequately good the producers were able to incorporate their work to this famous author. The story is about a student named Fuminori Sakisaka whose life turns upside down when he gets into a car accident that kills both his parents. Luckily he was able to servive but his vision has been impaired, granting him agnosia….of meat vision. So his whole life is in a nightmare and he sees everything and everyone as just monsters in a terrible lovecraftian horror story. The only one he sees a a normal person is Saya. Now let’s stop there. If he sees everyone normal as a monster but in turn sees Saya as normal then that would mean…….!! And I’m going to stop there. Interested? Then definitely check this one out!

992232323232

Yes:
Mind blowing story.
There has been no stories where I could think comes close to the plot line. Highly original.
Great for fans of H.P Lovecraft.

 No:
✖ Oh Goodness. Just. If your not into grotesque things. DON’T, JUST DON’T.
✖ Ahaha…well… the visual novel includes some Hentai Scenes, but I am not quite sure how the anime will play it off. If your not into that sort of thing, watching this anime might upset you.

Suisei no Gargantia:  April 2013

Suisei no Gargantia is about a boy named Redo who comes from a distant future where fighting bad guys with mecha machine co-exist. During one of his fights Redo ends up being swallowed up in a distortion, where he is thrown back to Earth, now a water flooded planet that survives by salvaging relics from the deep sea. He meets Amy, one of the messengers above a ship named Gargantia, where then he begins his life without having to worry about whose Gundam ship he’s going to blow up next.

It’s been awhile since I watched an mecha anime, and this one looks great! Like Shingeki no Kyojin, Suisei no Gargantia is also produced by Production I.G. In addition, we also have Kazuya Murata who provided the musical script from Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, Makoto Ishiwata (Dominator in Psycho-PassRobotics;Notes) and Gen Urobuchi who directed Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero (both superb animes from 2012)

keyvisualGargantia3

Yes:
Great mecha design!!
Animation by I.G Production + critically acclaimed directors, designers, and scores= awesomeness. ghgh
Some pretty big names here.

No:
✖ If your not into the mecha-sci fi genre, you probably won’t enjoy this.

There are so much more animes that I have to cover for this season, but here’s a portion of them now 🙂 Can’t wait to update part 2 next week. After watching through the animes on this list, I’ll be sure to write another post on my opinions of each anime’s first episode.

Andddddddd~ until then….Nyaaaaa~ d(=^・ω・^=)b

Like Fruit’s Basket? Check out Natsuki Takaya’s new series! Liselotte to Majo no Mori

ImageYup! You heard me! Natsuki Takaya the popular author of the best selling shojo manga, Fruits Basket (which is the FIRST best selling shojo manga in the USA, and SECOND best selling shojo in Japan) has yet again created a “I-never-want-to-put-this-book-down” series!! Giving a twist between fairy tales and a medieval type aura, Takaya-Sensei has presented us with yet again, a pitiful yet kindhearted heroine.

Liselotte to Majo no Mori or “Liselotte and the Witch’s Forest” is about a young lady living in exile in “a far far away place, in the east of the east of the east”. She is accompanied by her two twin servants, Anna and Alto, who worry for her well-being daily. (Well who wouldn’t, she manages to cause an uproar every time she tries something new, e.g get’s blisters on the second day of trying to learn how to plant crop or tries to cook, proving no avail and almost poisons one of the characters in the story..)

While on one of her gardening routines, she finally meets a witch who provokes her with different colors of apples (it’s snow white gone colorful O.o) and surrounds her with pitch black darkness. She is saved by a mysterious person named “Engetsu” who remind her of someone of her past…..just who is this person? Why did her brother banish her after taking the family throne? And is “En” the person who she has always been looking for?

Artwork:
If your familiar to Takaya’s works from either Fruits Basket or the citically acclaimed Hoshi wa Utau, you’ll know just how she adores creating characters with such simplicity yet uniqueness. Her lines are nice and clean, making the characters neat and adorable at the same time. One thing special about her artwork that you seem to notice is that she likes to play with a type of cinematography. She draws her characters from different angles, experiments with light shadings, and includes small distinct details in each panel.
An example of this is when she darkens her drawing and creates shadows when trying to show that her characters are behind a tree.

Plot: Takaya-Senei had always been inspired by things out of the ordinary. From Zodiac spirits to broom flying witches, she has always been able to bring her readers into the story.
In Liselotte to Majo no Mori, we can sense our main characters trying to piece together her life back and try beginning to “live” We can see in recent chapters that it hard for her to try expalining her situations and just basically just brushes off her misfortune by telling everyone she aa-okay. As the story progresses we begin to further see what happened before she moved to the forest and all the pain she was put though (T_T of gosh I’m going to cry)
Tragedy put aside, we also have some comical moments such as that of her servant Alto, being the protective person he is, not being able to accept “En” into the household. We also have an amazingly adorable witch’s familiar (ooops, spoiler) who makes you just wanna go “awwwwwww >///<” every time you see him. (at least, I think it’s a him =__=)

Given the tone of the character’s daily life, you can also consider this manga as a slice of life type manga, something you can read that will just make you feel comforted and relax.

Finally, for those who are interested in those historical themes,  the manga is filled with monorchial terms such as days of provisions or royalty ranking, and that of fantasy references. (witches, familiars, magic, curses…you get the picture)

Characters:

Another thing that Tayaka-Sensei is able to create are her memorable characters. One of these is “Engetsu” who is a somewhat dimwitted and straight forward individual. His quiet composure makes him seem like he’s holding many secrets, including his wish to find a certain witch. Although Engetsu doesn’t speak much and frequently disappears (yes, he just vanishes), he is always popping up to help Liselotte either in physical or mental matters. (as seen when he is hug…..AHH! Spoiler! Really, you guys need to read it before I ruin the story!!)

eliselotte_and_witch_s_forest_chap02.liselotte_chap02_030liselotte-to-majo-no-mori-2537147

Now, if your really into those quiet mysterious guys, you really need to check out this manga and see for yourself just how adorable he is.

We also have Alto, which is the COMPLETE opposite of “En”. After his mistress had been banished, her bravely decided to follow her along with his sister to become her support system. Although he may seem a little uptight, it’s because of his loyalty that he is able to go through great lengths to see Liselotte safe and sound.

We also have Anna-san who is a down to earth, although she is protective of her lady, she i fully accepts her determination to try and learn different things and is always trying to help Liselotte towards her goals.

As you can see, or read…the characters are very genuine and subtle, making Liselotte to Majo no Mori a must read for this month !!
